Live Active Leisure’s wellbeing team will be visiting various communities across Perth & Kinross from Monday 23rd September to Thursday 17th October with a free wellbeing roadshow.
A series of ten stops will take place at community halls and hubs with the free drop-in sessions offering encouragement, advice and opportunities to try, for people who struggle to participate in regular exercise.
Marcin Luszcz, Wellbeing Coordinator, commented, “There are many reasons that people don’t exercise; some are, as you’d expect, health or age related issues but for many people a lack of confidence or anxiety has built up around using sport and fitness facilities.
The wellbeing roadshows are there to offer advice, encouragement or come-and-try sessions - we want to show people that there are many different ways to keep active!“Whatever the reason, the wellbeing roadshow is there to offer advice, encouragement or come-and-try sessions. We want to show people that there are many different ways to keep active, and not all of them involve a pool or gym.”
The roadshows will highlight alternative ways to stay active in a social setting, offering information on local health walks and classes in community halls. This is particularly important for people who live alone or who are isolated due to location, and studies have shown this type of activity can bring positive benefits to both physical and mental health.
The wellbeing team will also provide easy ideas for staying active at home with examples including the use of everyday objects such as milk bottles filled with water and bathroom towels, to increase muscle strength and flexibility in the joints.
“There’s no need to book; the sessions are drop-in, and will give people the chance to have one-to-one chats with our team members. There will be no formal fitness tests – only self-assessment – and we can also offer free cholesterol and glucose tests to anyone who is interested.
“We’ll also have Information about our Move More Classes for people living with cancer, and about our activity referral classes for people who have an existing health condition."
Live Active Wellbeing Roadshows are free drop-in sessions, no booking required and there's even a free tea and coffee available.
