Beer. The drink that unites men, women and the world's nationalities. It is a thing of true pleasure, ranging depending on who you're with and what your end goal might be, from 30 seconds to half an hour of sheer, unadulterated joy.
The recent boom in craft beers and small breweries has seen us all reach for something a little bit different. Gone are the budweisers of America and the Scottish staple of a tennents and in come the Sunbursts, Eighty Bobs and Ales of Atholl. We might think our tastebuds have just caught up with the hipster trendsetters but in actual fact King James IV stopped off at what is thought to be the first 'Publick' brewery in Scotland as early as 1790.
It was, of course, in Perth at Blackford and at the time their tipple of choice was Blackford Ale or Blackford Ale. Thankfully, today's breweries are far more creative and the variety of independently brewed quirky ales, beers and lagers is growing almost as quickly as it takes a rugby team to down them!
Which leads us nicely on to the sixth annual Perth Beer Festival! With music, rugby, games and a monumental selection of beer, this is set to be another fantastic event.
Organised by Perthshire Rugby, that marquee on the North Inch has been pulling in bigger crowds year after year and it is now one of our most well-loved local events.
The beer pumps will be in action from noon and you'll be met by the Beer Festival Team who are ready and waiting to tickle your taste buds with the amazing selection of beers on offer.
Of course, with a beer comes a dance and a sing-a-long and this year Big Vern & The Shootahs will be topping the bill with a set that's sure to get you dancing off any excess (although I really must say 'please drink responsibly..!')
Kids are most certainly welcome along and they'll be able to pick up a ball and grab their first taste of rugby or go all out and test the most advanced players on our Perthshire team.
Finally, after the beer and wines have been sampled and the kids have been tired out, what could be better than to grab a locally produced, delicious burger from the BBQ or a tasty roll from the hog roast?
We'll see you there! Tickets availble to buy online>>>
SMALL CITY GALLERY: Thanks to Perthshire Rugby for sending us last year's Beer Festival pics for a flavour of what's to come. We'll be there with bells on!
