The Fair runs from 1 – 3 of July and this year’s lively programme includes an array of Main Ring favourites such as the Dog and Duck Show; Terrier Racing; Falconry and the Fred Taylor Memorial Trophy for Working Hill Ponies. There are many competitions and ‘have a go’ activities on offer from fly fishing demonstrations on the nearby River Tay to the fun Scurry competition, the Clays and Gnat Shooting and more making it the perfect day out for all the family. One of this year’s highlights is tipped to be the Horse Logging, which is new for 2016.
With over 450 traders there are lots of shopping opportunities from country and sporting clothing and equipment to the best of British produce in the Food Hall. The Cookery Theatre hosts demonstrations throughout the weekend, including the Three Sisters Bake and local food ambassador Christopher Trotter.
This year, the GWCT’s flagship stand beside the main ring is a must visit for all Fair goers: it will highlight the benefits of the Trust’s research and showcase how science can be readily translated into practical management advice that helps ensure a thriving countryside rich in game and wildlife.
There are lots of opportunities to get the whole family involved in the Wee Beasties Marquee, where there are many ‘have a go’ activities, including an observational hive for busy bees, and hands on crafts for children. Come and join us this year for a great, action-packed day out.
