Tom Ryan - Perth Winter Nights

07 January 2020

Beauty, they say is in the eye of the beholder, and Tom Ryan's creative interpretation of cold winter nights in Perth illustrate perfectly that there is wonder in the darkness of corners if only you look carefully enough.

Taken in the streets of the city centre, Tom's collection of night time photographs are a reminder to all of us to slow down, take our time and reflect on whatever might be placed in our path.

A stunning collection that showcases Tom's exceptional talent for capturing urban landscapes.

About The Photographer

Tom Ryan is an urban landscape photographer who lives in Scone, he first started snapping in 1977 but didn't get really serious about photography until the late 2000’s when his work took him on extended trips to the Far East: to Japan, Taiwan, Korea and China.

He found himself with evenings and weekends to spare in Tokyo and Seoul and discovered that an Asian city that is a bleak, concrete wilderness by day turns into a glorious, neon-lit fantasy land at night.

On returning to Scotland he found the lights of Perth didn't quite compare with Tokyo – but he still manages to capture gorgeous night scenes in the city centre streets! Tom enjoy's the challenge of finding something interesting or beautiful in ordinary places that people normally just walk by and ignore and his images are very effective in portraying this ethos.

Tom is a member of the Perthshire Photographic Society and also regularly posts his stunning photo's on the Pictures of Perth and Beyond Facebook page.
