If you've ever been fortunate enough to attend one of Julie Cumming's fitness classes you will know she is a powerhouse of a woman! With all the energy and stamina of a young gazelle she could motiavte even the most slovenly of couch potatoes into getting on board with her burpees, press-ups and non-stop bouncing!
Julie is the Managing Director of Lettings Direct - the day job, as it were! - but has always loved exercise and keeping fit, and is a qualified instructor. For the past 10 years she has delivered various classes across Perth and has become something of a well-kent face in the fitness community.
And it is thanks to this passion, and her incredible network of fitness fanatics, that Julie has spent the past three months fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support by whipping a team of willing participants into shape!
Offering free HIIT classes on Perth’s North Inch in exchange for donations to her Just Giving page, Julie has raised an incredible £2561.50 for Macmillan.
Thanks to both her passion and incredible network of fitness fanatics, Julie has spent the past three months fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support by whipping a team of willing participants into shape!Julie commented, “My Dad is terminally ill with cancer, and I lost my mum-in-law just a few months ago to this terrible disease. It seems everyone you speak to knows someone that is suffering, and I thought I’d use my passion for exercise to encourage people to make a difference.
"I started earlier in the year by raising sponsorship when I ran the Edinburgh Half Marathon in May. It just stemmed from there really; I had the idea to run the HIIT sessions and increase the pot! It has been a huge success and I'd like to thank everyone who came out and supported me."
The class, which has run every Wednesday evening at 6pm throughout the summer months, has seen around 40 participants over the period, many of whom have donated on a regular basis. Julie's famed motivational style kept them coming back for more and led her to the impressive final total.
Julie handed over a cheque for £2561.50 to Louise Mackay, Fundraising Manager for the North of Scotland for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Louise commented, “At Macmillan we are so thankful to have supporters like Julie who fundraise for us. Julie has been teaching her classes, come rain or shine, and has proven she has a great team of supporters who all want to get behind her and help people living with cancer find their best way through.
“Our ambition is to be there for everyone with cancer, right from the moment of diagnosis – providing physical, financial and emotional support to help them finds their best way through. 98% of our funding is from public donations and it really is down to people like Julie that we are able to provide our vital services – thank you”.
Donations can still be made to Macmillan on Julie’s Just Giving page >>>
