Feel-good-food at 269 Vegan
21 October 2019
269 Vegan is a bright and open space with a mellow mood (most of the time, sometimes it`s lunchtime) and delicious, tasty food. Calm and relaxing, welcoming and very inclusive. Gregor caught up with owner, Judit Bartok to find out more.
"We want everybody to feel included and at ease when visiting us. We are super dog friendly too!
"I strive for every customer to enjoy themselves when they come to the café and to find whatever it is that they are looking for. My staff and I work hard to cater to all needs and we don`t have a problem with meeting whatever requirement our customers may have.
"We are well practiced at tailoring dishes to suit individual needs whether that be something as simple as not liking soya milk or as important as an allergy. All of our allergens are listed and we encourage customers to ask us if they are unsure and be forthcoming about any needs they have. We try our best to cater for people with nut, soya or gluten intolerance/allergy. I really try to be inclusive, a place for everyone.
"It`s very important to me to support local businesses whenever and wherever I can. Many of our suppliers are from Glasgow, like Sgaia`s Vegan Meats – an incredibly talented bunch of vegan meat producers - and Clever Kombucha, our kombucha producer partner. The Herbivore Kitchen's famous brownies are just the best as are Considerit`s seriously good chocolates. Of course, right next door is Martin`s Fruit Bazaar, who we raid for fruit and vegetables on a daily basis, while Bellfield Organics top us up with organic vegetables and fruits.
"We have birch water straight from Perth`s Birken Tree, artisan lemonades from Aberdeenshire supplied by Summer House Drinks, our bottled water is from Ballater (Deeside Mineral Water) and our amazing bread supplier is Wild Heart Bakery from Comrie, Crieff.
"Our organic and fair trade coffee supplier is the amazing Edinburgh Tea and Coffee Company (established in 1812), we stock 16 type of lose leaf tea from Edinburgh based Pekoetea. All of our drinks hot and cold are supplied by companies from Scotland or England.
"Working with Greencity Wholefoods and Suma Wholefoods enables us to bring produce that are not available in supermarkets to the people of Perth. We do this at 269 not only for the lesser carbon footprint of sourcing locally but also because we small businesses have to stick together and help each other out. It`s great to be part of that community and I strongly feel that these fine and unique products have a place and market in Perth."
