Workdays and Weekends: Mark Perry

By 21st August 2016

Mark Perry A.K.A busy dad, GP and beekeeper fills his week with such a variety of different things that we just had to find out more!

Mark is a GP partner at the yellow doctor's practice at Drumhar. He works 4 days in the practice and spends one day a week looking after his growing beekeeping business. The days with his bees is mostly taken up with being a busy dad to 3 boys and fitting in the bee admin in between!

1. What does a typical day at work look like for you?

Morning surgery seeing patients and phone calls then a quick coffee and my paperwork/meetings then two more surgeries in the afternoon. Some days I'm out and about doing the house calls and some days I'm doing joint injections and surgical procedures.

Heading to the supermarket on the way home for a bottle of wine for me and my wife and a Friday treat for my three boys – usually Lego and sweeties

3. What makes for a perfect night in?

I much prefer being outside! Having friends round and cooking some nice food and drinking wine.

4. What makes for a memorable day or night out

Fishing - I love it. Catching a salmon and then spending sometime with the family afterwards

5. Tell us about the weekend you’d love to live again?

It was ages ago and summed up what I like doing. Climbing the Cobbler near Glasgow and when we got home there was a blanket of snow all over Glasgow. We then went out for a meal on Great Western Road and sat by the window eating and drinking watching the snow fall.

6. And now your best ever day at work?

Our patients give out such trust and respect they deserve the best possible treatment I can give. Having a day where it all works out this way is a good day. From the beekeeping point of view it was taking a harvest of honey round to be sold in a shop in Dunkeld - The Scottish Deli

7. Any workday or weekend rituals?

Work days are usually rushing out the door and driving to work late spilling my coffee all over me and the car. Not quite a ritual but its always happening. Weekends are watching the birds on the feeders outside my bedroom window drinking coffee and eating chocolate biscuits

8. What’s in the perfect day off breakfast?

Something like scrambled egg with smoked salmon on homemade bread with loads of pepper on it

9. Any words of wisdom for us?

Talking to people all day as I do in my job makes you see things differently and you learn a lot about life. It would be just make the most of it and try to enjoy each day as it comes along. Probably don’t eat too many chocolate biscuits either!
