The wonderful Douglas MacGregor from one of our favourite Perth indies, Scottish Seasons, is today set to finish his epic cycle across Europe to Romania. He is raising funds for Nightingales Children’s orphanage in Romania and we’d love the people of Perth to get behind him, and give him a boost to reach his £1000 target!
It has been an emotional rollercoaster of a journey for Dougie, who set off just 4 short months after having a hip replacement. Following the operation he got back on his bike on 13th April to begin training, and set off for the ride of his life on 27th July. He’s been cycling an average of 40-60 miles per day, and pulling his little two wheeled trailer with all his supplies has made the hills ‘interesting’!
There have been long hot days (we don’t fancy cycling in 36 degrees!), difficult terrain, wild camping and very few luxuries like a warm shower. He’s battled with navigation issues, broken bike parts, ‘balloon knee’ (ouch!), and crossed entire countries on his way to Cernavoda, Romania.
He’s seen everything from sunflower fields to forests, the Danube, a nudist lake, and even a vending machine for bike tyre inner tubes. He’s found his way through countries like Bulgaria and Hungary- and is still in one piece (we hope!).
We can’t wait to give him a great big high 5 when we see him next, what an incredible achievement. Please do get behind him and donate- he’d really appreciate it!
