There’s a fantastic music scene in our city. From big shows that light up Perth Concert Hall to more intimate gigs in the Green Room or Twa Tams, there are lots of opportunities for musicians to get involved and to enjoy a night out with friends, sampling a variety of different genres.
We are very lucky to have so many great bands in Perth too. One such band is the True Gents, who have certainly had a busy 2017 so far! The band supported the Red Hot Chilli Pipers in front of a sell-out crowd at the Concert Hall, and launched their brand new album to a packed audience at the Green Room.
The eight-piece band released the album ‘Blood Moon’ in March and it has already gone down a storm in both the local and national music scene. It was two years in the making, and band member Tobe Jeffery is buzzing that their creation is now out and receiving such glowing reviews.
“We’re very excited about getting the album out there and into circulation. We’ve got a great range of gigs booked up for 2017 so far with more to follow. We just can’t wait to play the new album tracks at the gigs to our fans, friends and families!”
The band had a shake up a few years ago welcoming on board new members which subsequently changed their once folky style into more of a rock vibe. True Gents also drafted in two female vocalists in the recording process, Rosemary Stanford and Rea Pirnie which brought the band to an eight-piece and added something unique to their sound.
The lead single on Blood Moon is ‘Lightnin’ and the song even made it onto Jim Gellatly’s playlist on Amazing Radio, which is a station dedicated to playing new music from independent artists across the UK – a nice bit of publicity! Tobe has been happy with the bands new sound, and thinks that they may move in a different direction again with their next album.
“The new band members have added a rockier more psyche sound to the True Gents which has been a welcome change and challenge for the song writing. Our first album was a more Scottish alternative folk vibe so it’s been good to take it another direction to what we feel is a different sound for the band.
“We’re already working on some new numbers which seem to be taking a different direction again – we just love the creative process and the fact that the songs have been warmly received is a bonus!”
The band’s next gig is at the Tormaukin Hotel this Friday and it's sure to be a big night! They also recently played at the Banchory Beer Festival, ‘Stramash’ in Edinburgh and at the Perth Biker Rally at Scone Palace too! There are more dates to be added, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled as they may be coming to a pub near you soon!
