Every now and then a story that captures the true essence of Christmas pops up, hugs you tightly and makes you happy to be part of the human race! This is exactly what happened to me when I read about Princes Street’s Lorraine Law being accidently tagged in an Australian Facebook page’s Christmas giveaway.
Warning: This may make you cry. And it will certainly make you happy to be living in our small city with gorgeous people like Lorraine around!
So, Malibu Fresh Essentials is a fruit and veg shop based in Western Australia and they’ve been running a giveaway for a $50 voucher. They asked their fans to write in, nominating a someone to win the prize. Here’s where the mix up came in – the winner was a lovely Australian lady called Lorraine Law who had been nominated by two members of her family. This is her daughter’s nomination - prepare for a bit of a tear jerker.
“This year mum lost her mother very suddenly and was not able to arrive in time to say goodbye (grandma lived in New South Wales). Following this she had to move out of her home and into my spare room, and then into community housing after losing a job she really loved. Since then she has driven down from coolbellup three times a week to pick my daughter up from school so I could continue working. She does the cooking and cleans up, does my daughter’s home reader with her, and is so accomodating with my roster changes at work etc. All of the above while she's battled her own health issues and financial woes. My mum never wins anything despite being a very deserving and giving person.”
When Malibu Fresh posted the win, they accidently tagged OUR Lorraine Law, who popped onto the page to find out what had happened. When she realised she’d been tagged by mistake she decided to make the prize pot extra special! Here’s what she posted back to them….
“Imagine my surprise to find I had been tagged as a nominee to win a prize in your competition in Australia. Then I read it and realised I had been tagged by mistake. I then read why Ainslie Law had nominated her mother Lorraine to win. Sounds like she has had a tough time and it's great to see that her family appreciate her so much. I am a Jewellery Designer in Dundee and Perth in Scotland and I would like to send a little Christmas gift for my namesake to add to your prize. If she is happy to accept it I will post it to you at Malibu Fresh Essentials to pass on to her. Merry Christmas. Lorraine.”
I told you it was brilliant! Lorraine Law in Australia was made up (obviously!) and her daughter sent this amazing message back…
“Oh thanks so much. This brings a tear to me. My mother is a fantastic person and your generosity is astounding. My mother would be over the moon to accept your lovely and generous offer, lorraine law from the UK, malibu fresh would be fine to send it to... Thanks sooo much!!!”
Our Perth based Lorraine simply said this…
“It struck a chord with me because I lost my dad a year ago past October. He collapsed on holiday up North and was taken to Raigmore hospital. Thankfully my brother and sisters got up to the hospital 30mins before he passed and were able to say our goodbyes to him. I hope she loves the necklace.”
Isn’t the human spirit a thing of wonder and amazement? Go on, go out and do something amazing for no reason other you can. This is my favourite ever #PerthLoveFest.
