The programme will include a selection of jazz pieces from the Great American Songbook arranged for jazz trio, as well as some Beatles songs and some original contemporary jazz compositions.
The band was set up by guitarist Allan Young after graduating from the Birmingham Conservatoire in the Summer of 2015 and features two of Allan's closest friends and fellow Conservatoire graduates playing the role of the rhythm section. The band originally formed as a platform to play Allan’s own original compositions but has since extended it’s repertoire. In addition to the original compositions, the band now performs a real mix of music including jazz, rock, folk, experimental and anything else in between!
Allan grew up in Perthshire and attended guitar lessons in Edinburgh with guitarist Mike McGeary. He then went on to study at the Birmingham Conservatoire on the Jazz course and graduated in 2014. He has been lucky enough to perform alongside many respected names in Jazz including Jeff Ballard, Dave Holland, John Taylor, George Colligan, Julian Arguelles, Tim Garland, Gwylym Simcock, Mike Walker, Liane Carroll, and many more. In 2012 he performed Mark-Anthony Turnage's "Blood on the Floor", an ambitious cross-genre work for jazz quartet and large ensemble under the direction of renowned conductor Sian Edwards and composer Mark-Anthony Turnage. Allan also appeared on E4's 'Made In Chelsea' with function band 'The Quartones'. He is also a member of Birmingham-based group 'The Mourning Suns' as well being involved with many other side projects around Birmingham. As well as performing and composing, Allan also teaches privately and at Pro Music Tuition in Rowley Regis.
