So, in all honesty, who feels anxious, scared or even dreads the thought of giving birth?!
As soon as you announce your pregnancy people love to start sharing their birth stories, and only occasionally is it a positive one!
Here's a little known secret; birth doesn't have to be a horror story, in fact...it can even be enjoyable! That doesn't mean it isn't hard work, but women are strong, capable and quite literally built for the job.
Tayside Hypnobirthing was founded and is run by Yazmyn Rettie, midwife, hypnobirthing practitioner, positive birth activist and a member of the Hypnobirthing Association.
Women are strong, capable and quite literally built for the job. Hypnobirthing is a logical, simple, and effective way to prepare for birth. It includes a set of techniques that encourages you to work with your body and to trust your instincts, leading to a calmer and more confident birth.
The worst thing about hypnobirthing is the name. Many will immediately think of stage hypnosis, where people are encouraged to do silly things, such as cluck like a chicken, or otherwise seem not in control of their behaviour. The “hypno” of hypnobirthing is from hypnotherapy, and teachers use these techniques in two main ways;
Our bodies are perfectly designed to give birth – after all, we have been doing so for thousands of years – but society and the media have loaded us with negative images which can act as a block to birth, putting fear and anxiety in the place of excitement and confidence.
Hypnobirthing uses simple relaxation techniques to help you release any fear or negativity you may be feeling about your baby’s birth, allowing you to enjoy the experience – this is possible, regardless of what we are told in the media. It will provide you with effective breathing exercises to prepare your body for the birth of your baby.
There is no right or wrong way to have your baby. Loud or silent. Home or in theatre. Everyone can benefit from hypnobirthing and although it does not guarantee a perfect birth, it always makes a difference.
