There’s some huge music news breaking around Perthshire today, with the announcement of not one but two massive acts coming to the city over two consecutive weekends! With almost 200 million record sales between them, it’s undoubtedly a fantastic coup for Perth to welcome two household names on May 27th and June 3rd 2018.
BBC Music’s Big Weekend will be taking place at Scone Palace over the final weekend in May, and the headline name is none other than Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds! The man who penned iconic British songs such as Wonderwall, Roll with It, and Live Forever will be coming to the crowning place of Scotland’s kings, news that is sure to excite the many Oasis and Gallagher fans in Perth.
Plus, the great news is that 60% of tickets are exclusively reserved for the people of Perth and Kinross, with a further 25% reserved for those living in DD, FK or KY postcodes. That means the the people of Perthshire are being given the best chance of securing tickets for the BBC Big Weekend!
Famous for his rock and roll lifestyle, Noel and his brother Liam fronted Oasis – widely regarded as one of the UK’s finest ever rock and Britpop bands – selling over 85 million records between 1991 and 2009. Famously, the two brothers have had an ongoing public spat in the years since the band split and Noel moved on to form Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, with whom he has released three studio albums and sold nearly 3 million records.
And, as if that news wasn’t enough, what about the announcement of the former Commodores man and American R&B and soul legend Lionel Richie? The ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ singer is coming to McDiarmid Park on Sunday 3rd June in another huge coup for Perthshire.
The international superstar is returning to the UK to serenade his fans with his extensive songbook from a career which has spanned six decades! Richie’s live shows are renowned for their party atmosphere and the audience will be treated to timeless classics such as ‘All Night Long’, ‘Hello’, and ‘Say You Say Me’.

“I’ve been missing the UK and I can’t wait to make my long awaited return and to see parts of the country I’ve never made it out to before. The fans are always incredible and they make the atmosphere at every show electric, so I look forward to singing along with them soon.”
Richie is touring the UK for the first time since his 'All the Hits' tour which included three nights at London's O2 and a phenomenal Glastonbury performance which saw 200,000 people flock to the Pyramid Stage to watch him.
