Summer Trends : Eva Lucia Tells All

When it comes to spotting fashion trends there is no-one quite as well placed for sartorial advice than Small City’s favourite fashionista, Lori McGaffney AKA Mrs Eva Lucia.  This is the woman who placed bums of all shapes and sizes into THE holy grail of skinny jeans and who convinced us all we needed to be wearing vegan shoes, if not for the ethics then most certainly for the fashion street cred.

SS2017 Jeans BlazerThis summer, Lori tells us it’s all about quality. Gone is the throw away fast fashion that dominated the headlines during the austerity years and in its place is smart buying with key pieces you’ll dress up, dress down and wear again and again.

“I think people have become bored of buying high high fashion that they wear just once. We’ve found that our customer wants to be a bit more savvy with her money and fashion choices.  Think occasion wear that can be paired with high heels and lots of gorgeous jewels or teamed with a little cardi and your converse for a picnic in the park.

Instead of wearing something once, it’s time for classic colours, beautiful cuts and flexible fashion. Mix something stand-out like the Melissa shoe (£85) with Indigo Waven Jeans (£52) and a timeless navy blazer (£39.99).”

We asked Lori to choose her top five trends that could be adapted to stay looking good long after the summer sun has gone: here are her must-buy looks for 2017.

SS2017 PINK DRESSBell Sleeves: These are everywhere at the moment but if you go slightly flared rather than full on Big Ben you’ll stay looking sharp well into winter. Also worth noting that the Paris catwalk had fushcia EVERYWHERE! (Fuchsia Pink Dress - £109)

SS2017 White DressMicro Bags: Teeny tiny bags with just enough room for your lipstick, phone and party feet these gorgeous clutches might be very now but they’ll also look good for years to come. A timeless investment you’ll use again and again.  (micro Bag - £85 - £99)

White, White and More White: This is the colour you will never tire of and in a gorgeous, simple dress you can be sure of multiple wears.  Team it with colour-pop heels and hat for the races or pull on your strappy sandals, a bright scarf and head for a cocktail in the sun.  (White Dress - £114)

SS2017 Melissa Shoes

Melissa Shoes: Dame Vivienne Westwood is seldom wrong and her collaboration with Melissa has produced a cult following.  Customers who have bought these shoes keep coming back for more and we are careful to buy only limited amounts to give it a long-lasting, ethical edge. (Melissa Shoes - £85 - £160)

SS2017 Classic MacA Classic Mac: Is it a trend? Is it a classic? Does it really matter? If you don’t have one of these in your wardrobe then you are missing out. Choose cool beige for the ultimate in long lasting style. (Classic Mac - £75)
