In some towns and cities Sandalwood might be best known as the gloriously heady scent of the seventies. But in here in Perth it instantly conjures up images of gorgeous shoes and fabulous boots!
Opened by Anne McLean in 1977, the beautiful purple shop recently celebrated 35 years in business and is one of the reasons my student grant was blown too quickly and my wardrobe doors refuse to close! I have bought shoes, boots, sandals and bags from this lady over the years and I’ve always been happy with every last purchase (this summer I discovered Wonders… O.M.Gorgeous!)
Sandalwood is one of Perth’s longest standing and most successful independent retailers and Anne has traded through the highs and lows of the eighties, two shop moves, the platform soles of the seventies (and nineties!) all the way through to present day.
Never one to sit still Anne has embraced new ideas along the way and this year with over three decades under her soles she has decided to launch a new line of ladies clothing!
“I felt that I wanted to do something different in the shop to celebrate this landmark year. 35 years in business is something I’m really proud of and I felt ready for a new challenge. There are some fantastic ladies clothes shops I know but I knew there was room for something a little different that would complement the existing offer. I always find it tricky to find clothes that fit me well and suit my style and so I started with that.”
Anne has started with great basics in neutral shades and gorgeous prints. Her range includes Gestuz Clothing from Denmark which is “inspired by Rock and Roll with a hint of sweetness”! I wasn’t really sure what that meant but on trying on some of the gorgeous range I got it instantly! Lambs leather leggings with stretch back for comfort, soft leather skirts, blouses in fantastic prints and some wonderful, easy-to -wear knitted pieces to pull the entire look together.
She would love you to drop in and browse through her first collection; stop for a try on if you have time and remember to tag your new outfits #PerthLoveFest when you get home (its almost inevitable that you will purchase!).
