Do you ever look at old pics of your mum or Nana and think – I love that dress! In fact, if you’re my age, (42 – happy with it!) you might find its old photographs or yourself you’re looking at with fashion envy! Pining for my grey wooly culottes of 1988 is something I have often done in the lead-up to winter.
Because here’s the thing, all fashion goes in circles. It sometimes has a little twist, it may be slightly different fabric, but the principle of a mini skirt is the same now as it was when my Mum wore them in 1965! And thanks to the Fashion Gods for it.
But you know, style circles aren’t always decades apart. Often clothes from a season or two ago can be updated with great accessories; a new belt, bright scarf or some statement jewellery can bring a whole new look.
If you buy well cut, well designed and well made, clothes can last for years. We’ve all got some old favourites lurking in the back of the wardrobe – you find them on a clear out and then wear them over and over because it’s like having a brand, new outfit. Imagine if you could use a shop that let you share everyone’s surprise wardrobes?
Well there is! Revival on George Street in Perth is the antidote to fast fashion and that terrible throwaway mindset the celeb magazines have convinced us is ok! Mixing up your wardrobe with gorgeous new items, some vintage treasures and some of your own long term favourites will give you a look that’s oozes individuality and quality.
And the environmental cherry on top is if I’m wearing your old coat and your wearing someone else’s dress then none of it is sitting in a landfill!
Somehow, fast fashion and celeb magazines have had us all running round buying, buying and buying some more
Mandy told me this, “Most of the items I have were in fashion before and have come back into fashion . People love the fact they can get something that's unique, taking away that dreaded moment when you go to an event to see someone else wearing the same thing! You’ll find that vintage items that were expensive at the original point of purchase have a quality that is far superior than High Street items you can buy now.”
Revival works in two ways – you can go in browse and purchase just like you can in any shop. She had a seventies style black bomber jacket that quite frankly I was considering surgery to get into. It’s gorgeous. I’ve had a fab scarf and did that silly thing of going away and thinking about a coat I’d tried on only to come back and discover it gone! I’d say that you need to pop in often and don’t dilly-dally if you see something you like… She can’t order up another one!
Revival is also a dress agency, where you can take your own clothes that no you longer wear and sell them via the shop. So if you have some designer gowns from the eighties hanging in the back of your wardrobe and know you’ll never wear them again, then pop into see Mandy and she’ll chat to you about a price – you split it with her 50/50! Brilliantly good! As you’d expect, everything needs to be in good condition with no rips or marks.
If you enjoy fashion, if you like style and the cycles it takes then you will love this shop. Accessories, dresses for evening, jackets for day, trousers, suits and fabulous jumpers. She has it all in multiple prints, fabrics and labels. There are designers from decades ago, high street from a few seasons ago and jewellery, bags and new pieces that will add that little finishing touch to what you’re buying.
The gorgeous photographs below give a flavour of what Mandy has in stock. Because of the nature of the shop, she can’t guarantee this will still be there when you make it in but she can promise you will find a gorgeous haven of vintage style and individual items.
