Perth Silent Auction is a Success

Christmas has come early for two deserving charities.

The annual Perth Silent Auction staged by the Rotary Club of Perth in tandem with the Perthshire Advertiser has raised a massive £30,000.

The sums were done in the wake of a hectic finale, when more than 400 lots donated by big-hearted businesses were snapped-up by generous bidders.

The main beneficiaries this year are the Cornhill Macmillan Cancer Centre in Perth and the “My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.”

It pushes the tally raised down the years beyond the £380,000 mark.

David Lindsay, Silent Auction co-ordinator, yesterday thanked everyone who took part in the auction for their help in raising this fantastic total.

His words were echoed by Douglas Dickie, editor of the PA.

“We never doubted that the Perth and Kinross community would rally round the Silent Auction and the selected charities,” he said:

“Every year they dig deep to support good causes and as the local newspaper we are proud to have played a part in yet another successful fundraiser.”

David noted: “Once again we are totally indebted to all the supportive businesses who gave so generously to this year’s auction.

“Anyone who visited the 2019 Silent Auction site will have seen the fantastic selection of lots we had for sale.

“Having met Scotland rugby legend and MND sufferer Doddie Weir in the late summer, we were determined to do all we could to raise money to help his cause, along with Cornhill and selected Rotary charities.

“Even after 12 years of fundraising, no one could fail to have been inspired by Doddie’s courage and determination to fund research and help other sufferers.

“I also want to thank all the buyers of goods and services.

“Many have bought from us before but, encouragingly, we welcomed bidders that were new to us and hail from further afield.

“I also want to thank the Perthshire Advertiser and editor Douglas Dickie for all their support in publicising the event.

“The more people know about us, the more money we make. It’s as simple as that.

“As ever, there has been a power of work done behind the scenes by the Rotarians.

It’s very much a team effort and, as they say in football circles, the team’s done good.

“Whilst it is an online auction everything has to be logged to ensure it all passes off smoothly.

Rotary president Gordon Hay expressed his gratitude to all donors and bidders for the magnificent support they have given to this year’s Silent Auction.

He said: “The funds raised will enable the Rotary Club of Perth to give much-needed support to local charities as well as to Cornhill and the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.”
