Perth In The Buff Return on Saturday 8th November to The Corinna in Perth. Event Details Here.
I spent a perfectly hilarious hour yesterday in the company of Amanda Beveridge and Andy Grey – one half of the much-loved comedy act, Perth in The Buff. We were supposed to be joined by Ian Grieve, Amanda’s husband, but he had been called down to London to start filming for his new channel 4 project, Coalition, in which he plays Gordon Brown. It all sounds quite glamorous I know, but the pair in front of me were more intent on predicting the nonsense Ian might get up to during his visit to number 10.
“I hope he nicks something” says Andy.
“NO! He can’t steal anything – he’ll get sacked. Maybe he could just moon out of a window.” (Like he won’t get sacked for that!).
After clapping wildly at the Facebook pics Ian was posting of himself outside the country’s most famous front door we settled down into a rami, whereupon they decide to change the date of the event to NOVEMBER 8TH instead of their original plans of November 1st. (If you had the 1st in your diary don't worry, you still have time to come along!).
After a year relaxing (!), the foursome is set to dust off Chantelle’s pink tracksuit and Footsy’s bunnet as they take to the stage with Perth In The Buff. If you’ve never seen this show then you MUST clear your diary, practice your best Perth accent and head to The Corinna for a night of local laughs, HUGE personalities and a warm, affectionate poke at life in our small city.
The night is set to be a highlight on Perth’s social calendar, so much so in fact that Chantelle is on a detox in preparation. She is a wee bit confused and the date is of course the 8TH NOVEMBER!
Andy explained to me how the whole Perth In The Buff act came about.
“It started in 2010 when the council were digging up the High Street. We were all sitting in The Bothy over a few beers wondering at where they found so many coloured paving slabs. As the beer flowed the characters emerged and we ended up writing the first load of sketches amongst the empty glasses. We’re all from Perth, we all love Perth and The Buff comes from a place of much fun and great affection.“
I am a card-carrying Buffer, having been at the first show to witness the birth of Chantelle, the street smart teenager, Perthy Gardner the spunky man with his finger on the pulse of the toon's hanging baskets and of course, Footsy McPhail the 87 year old Ball Boy. My personal favourite is Marjorie from Scone with her 4x 4 and unique take on life’s essentials.
So what has brought them back out to play?
“Well, Footsy’s had a tremendous year with Saints winning the cup. It was him that convinced us to come out and talk to the people. In fact the show is called The Road To Glory in honour of our team. Rev. Gordy will be on the bus, Jean and Jessie are back and Dirk Danger, the coolest man in Perth is making an appearance from his usual spot in the 208.”
Cue much mischief, the lighting up of eyes and uncontrollable giggles from Amanda.
“Of course Pamela from the PA will be reporting and Jonny Hess, our Aschafenburg Ambassador is making a special visit for it. Gayle and Colin might come but they’re addicted to Gogglebox just now so we’ll see…”
