Christmas Sparkle In North Methven Street

By 14th November 2016

We do love a bit of Christmas Spirit here at Small City and so when we heard the fabulous tale of the North Methven Street retailers coming together to celebrate Independent retail AND to help fundraise for St Ninian’s Cathedral which bookends the top of their street.

If you read our recent Street Life article all about North Methven Street, you’ll know that this often-forgotten street is a packed full of #PerthIndies and as well as a fabulous mix of shops, services and foodie outlets there’s also great on-street parking all in the heart of the city.  So far, so brilliant.

What’s not brilliant is that as a street they have no Christmas Decorations -  1,2,3 – Ahhhhhhh! – and as much as people enjoy a wander from Mill Street up to the edge of the city centre, the local shop owners feel they’re missing that extra-special festive sparkle.

And so, this year they’ve come together with Perth Traders Association to raise funds in order to light the trees and install a large nativity scene outside of the beautiful St Ninian’s Cathedral enjoyed by all of us who pass-by on foot, in the car or by bike! To bring even more local spirit to the occasion, the Community Pay Back team will be building the stable and securing it tightly into place - high winds and light-fingers won’t getting one over on these guys!

The #PerthIndies on this street have all donated prizes to a huge street-wide raffle including £100 for Marian's of Perth, £100 for Henderson's The Jeweller and £100 for PC Solutions. You can buy tickets, priced at 31 each, from any one of the shops listed below as well as Charlie Taylor Hairdressers and Murrays Pies.

2 LANTERN NORTH METHVENThe scene will be installed in time for December and the Provost’s special Christmas Lantern Parade on December 3rd will leave from this glorious new addition to Perth City Centre’s Christmas Light Show.

To make the walk along all the more appealing, each store will have twinkling white lanterns and visitors should look out for the fresh pine Christmas trees dotted along the way.

All we need now is a wee sprinkling of snow and some jingle bells and we’ll be ready for the man in the red suit to make his way!

SUPPORT THE CAUSE: Drop into Marian’s of Perth to buy a raffle ticket, priced at £1.
