The UK’s largest charity for parents has a fantastic team of volunteers in the Perth & District branch, all working together to make being pregnant in Perthshire an exciting time.
As well as groups the NCT offer local First Aid courses and workshops on Introducing Solids, national helplines that are available to all UK parents (the charity focuses on supporting parents in the first 1,000 days), and are always on the look out for anyone able to offer some of their time.
The local team love what they do, and look forward to hearing from you, meeting you at one of their groups, and welcome you to volunteer and help other parents.

Monthly social nights for pregnant ladies that provide a place for expectant mums to meet and chat in a private venue which is relaxed and informal. It may sound like a small thing, but it was the idea of two mums who met at antenatal class around 4 years ago but then didn’t see each other till 6 months later and wished there had been a way to keep in touch with other mums going through the same experiences.
The volunteers know how important it is to have friends who are going through the same as you, or just a channel to chat through everything from where to get maternity clothes to that middle of the night message looking for advice when up with a newborn. Held in The Cellar Bar, these pre-baby meetings with other mums-to-be are a great start to building friendships and what the NCT offer here in Perth.
On maternity leave and exhausted by the end of the day? Then head to this weekly group to meet parents with children under 12 months or expectant mums. If you’ve met others at Bumps@ThePub then this is a great way to keep regular contact with the babies born at the same time as yours in the first year. The other great addition is guest speakers showcasing what is on offer for parents and babies and loving crafts to make memorable gifts.
What if you are having your second or third baby? Well, NCT Perth & District branch have that covered too. NCTeenies weekly group is for all children up to 5 years old and offers the chance for toddlers to do a weekly craft activity while you get to have a cup of tea and catch up on how other parents are getting on.
For over 15 years the local branch of NCT have run twice yearly Nearly New Sales, in Spring and Autumn. This year's dates are 22nd April & 28th Oct). So, what better way than keeping the cost down of your new addition – go and pick up fantastic pre-loved maternity and children items.
Whether it is clothes, books, toys, clothes or baby equipment – there is something for everyone and when you are needing extra space in your home, then come back to sell and pass on great items to other local families, while supporting the charity to keep running.
