Sporrans on the Stage

By 24th March 2016

Us Scots do love a wee bit of nonsense and banter, and none more so than local Sporran maker Marcus Eagleton.  Marcus has taken the traditional sporran to a whole new level over the years with a fantastic line in sporran handbags as his signature line and materials as diverse as irn bru cans and purple muppet fur.

His most recent creation brought together two great nations when he combined a Scottish Rugby Ball with an Aussie Rules Football in a special design for Adam Hills, stand up comedian and presenter of the Last Leg. (As an aside, he is also the not so secret crush of all the girls in the Small City office!).

Marcus was invited down to the Alhambra Theatre Dunfermline by his friend Claire Alexander and having donated a Batman Insignia Sporran to Paddy McGuiness on his previous visit, he felt he couldn’t really go empty handed!

“Claire passed on the Aussie Rules V Scottish Rugby Sporran to Adam and I was completely shocked when he came out onto stage wearing it.  He was brilliant, making jokes and tweeting Russell Crowe photos of it!  I met him afterwards and we had a great chat – in fact we’re donating a sporran to his friend’s charity, Kicking Cancer In The Nuts.

Anyway, I thought that was it over and then I heard from some friends who’d been down to see him in Glasgow the following night that he had worn it again there and kept it on throughout his entire act. Brilliant!”

Adam isn’t the only celeb who’s been papped with a ‘Marcus Eagleton’ creation dangling from their arm or adorning their groin. From the on-trend Edith Bowman to the legendary Shirley Bassey and Samuel L Jackson, Marcus’s work has spread throughout celeb-land and given us all a bit of puffed up pride when we announce it was made on George Street in Perth.
