In the first of our new column, we caught up with the very busy and extremely smiley, Karen Taylor, Business Planning and Marketing Manager at our local Independent Sports and Fitness trust, Live Active Leisure.
Her typical working hours are Monday to Friday office hours with the odd evening or weekend thrown in to deal with anything urgent!
First things first and like everyone else, it’s a scan of the emails and a look at the diary for the day. A typical day varies; I get days at my desk where I get to work on projects such as developing new memberships or looking how we are performing as a business. However other days can be back to back meetings.
My favourite days are the creative ones, when I get to spend time with the very brilliant marketing team (that’s them in the photo) talking about campaigns, brand and membership development and communications.
Saying good night to my colleagues, jumping in the car, turning up the radio (I like to sing loudly) and heading on the A85 home to Comrie. When I turn right in Crieff on a Friday on the last stretch home, that’s when the weekend has started.
A steak dinner cooked by my lovely man, a glass or 3 of Caorunn or Strathearn Heather Rose gin and a right good blether with my girls.
People that I love. Laughter. Good food and drink, really simple stuff.
A trip to Ireland, sitting at the edge of a loch with the one you love knowing that it’s going to be fine. (Although the weekend I spent bobbing about on a boat on the Caribbean sea is up there too!)
Oh tough one. I think I am going to go for the Live Active 50th birthday party with Danny McAskill, I became a groupie overnight. It was the joy on the kids’ faces watching their heroes perform. Absolutely brilliant and the perfect way to celebrate our 50 years.
At work – email folders. Every Friday I start at the bottom of my inbox and cleanse! It’s an obsession, I like to be organised!
Weekend rituals – a recent one is a 2 mile walk early on a Saturday morning, I’m trying to make it a habit, especially after the Friday night steak and gin!
It’s not anything too bad actually; I’m a diabetic so although I think I want to eat pastries for breakfast, they make me feel pretty rotten. So it’s shredded wheat, berries and a cup of green tea mostly. However, I have been known to be partial to a bacon and tattie scone roll with brown sauce of course.
When you have more than you need, build a longer table not a higher wall. Not my words but words to live by.
