Halloween Happenings!

By 5th October 2016

I’ve always loved Hallowe’en. When I was a kid it was about carving pumpkins, dooking for apples in the living room and eating an insane amount of monkey nuts. As a slightly bigger kid at Uni it was an excuse to don fancy dress on every night out for at least a week either side of the actual big celebration. Now with a little girl of my own I get to relive all the excitement of dressing her up and heading to as many of the Hallowe’en themed kids activities there are. Here’s a selection of what’s happening locally, please do let us know of any others!

31 October 2016, 8pm. Perth Concert Hall, Norie-Miller Studio

Guitarist and composer Graeme Stephen returns to present another cast-iron classic of silent cinema accompanied by another of his magnificent new scores, which earned him the Innovation Award at the Scottish Jazz Awards in 2013. Most appropriately for Halloween, this evening's film is Robert Wiene's 1920 revolutionary masterpiece, The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari, which is considered by many to be the first ever horror film - as well as the first cult movie and the earliest example of an 'arthouse' approach to film-making. Featuring the scintillating instrumental talents of Mario Caribe (bass) and Tom Bancroft (drums).

'Stephen's music speaks loudly of ambition, imagination, nous and harmonic adventure yet teemed with the sort of tuneful realization that swells the heart' The Herald
