Gillies was founded in 1895 by James Gillies, moving to Broughty Ferry, Dundee in 1906 as cabinetmakers, upholsterers and removal contractors before finally opening on the current site as ‘House Furnishers’ in 1939. Since then Gillies has continued to provide Scotland with the highest quality home furnishings, carpets and flooring.

Gillies understands family life, and how important your home is to you. That is why as an independent family run business, Gillies have helped to furnish homes all over Scotland for over 120 years and continue to be one of Scotland’s premier furnishing retailers responsible for helping you to create a home.

In a Gillies showroom you will find a huge selection of sofas, dining furniture, occasional furniture, beds, bedroom furniture, accessories, occasional lighting, carpets and all types of flooring. Within the flagship Broughty Ferry store you will also find curtains, wallpapers, soft furnishings, linens, cookware, and giftware.

Gillies is proud to boast the ability to deliver the full service just as James Gillies first provided when he first started out. This allows Gillies to offer an unrivalled range of modern, traditional, and contemporary home furnishings from all over the world. The buying teams work exceptionally hard to ensure that when you find yourself in a Gillies store, you are surrounded by the furnishing trade’s leading brands such as Ercol, Tempur, Ekornes, Vi-spring, Duresta, Brintons, and Karndean, as well as a vast selection of interesting and often unusual furnishings sourced from east to west, with many of the products being readily available from stock for immediate delivery.

From management, to sales teams or delivery drivers and fitters; every member of the Gillies team has bought into the company’s mission of providing value for money through the sale of quality goods backed by a high standard of personal service. All sales teams receive regular training on new product, even taking the opportunity’s to visit suppliers and experience the products being manufactured to develop unmatched product understanding.

When it comes to delivery and installations, the distribution hub, comprising of 60 people and 40 vehicles, have the operation of receiving the manufacturers’ deliveries, checking the products and arranging customers’ deliveries down to a fine art; we even insist on recycling all waste packaging material which leaves you ready to enjoy the product from the very moment they’re in your home.

Gillies is still exceptionally proud to remain family run to this day, with the 5th generation deeply involved in the day-to-day running of the business, and in maintaining the same philosophy of excellent service, innovation and value for money as it did over 120 years ago.
