Charline Joins Perth's Cycletta

By 16th September 2014

Macmillan's Cycletta returns for a second year to the magnificent grounds of Scone Palace in Perth on Sunday October 5th and this year's event is attractibg the cream of the cycling crop!

Charline Joiner, Scottish Cyclist and member of Team Scotland at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games has announced that she will lead the peloton at this year's Macmillan Cycletta Scotland.

Charline, from Dunfermline, won a sensational silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Dehli and is now setting her sights on making the team for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

She took up cycling at the age of 19, after an injury stopped her playing hockey, and has gone on to be a leading member of the Scottish Cycling team. This year she faced a race against time to be fit enough to compete in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games after fracturing her back in a crash at a training camp in Spain in January 2014.

She is now looking forward to taking part in Macmillan Cycletta and hopes that the event will help to encourage ladies of all ages and abilities to get involved in cycling.

Charline commented,

“Cycling is a great way to get fit and to stay fit and I am delighted to take part in this Women Only event. We need to do more to encourage women, both young and old to take up cycling as a sport – it’s a great way of keeping fit, not to mention handy for getting about and, with events like Macmillan CyclettaScotland, it’s a great excuse to raise funds for a very worthwhile charity cause too”.

Dan Lipman, of event organisers Human Race commented:

“To have a member of Scotland’s Commonwealth Games team sign up for Macmillan Cycletta is just fantastic. It’s going to be an amazing day at Scone Palace and having a top athlete like Charline leading the pack will be great encouragement for all the ladies who are taking part.”

This year ladies can sign up for 20km, 40km, 70km and a newly introduced 100km route for the more serious cyclists, who might be looking for tougher challenge!
