A series of events to celebrate Book Week Scotland taking place in Perth, Crieff, Blairgowrie, Kinross and Auchterarder have been announced by Culture Perth & Kinross Libraries.
Book Week Scotland, which runs from 21-27 November, is a national celebration of books and reading that brings hundreds of free events to a variety of venues across the country.
Eight events are set to be staged across Perth & Kinross, embracing the official theme for Book Week Scotland 2016 which is discovery, celebrating how reading exposes us to a world of discovery, exploration and adventure. Writers set to visit the region include BBC radio Scotland presenter and author Theresa Talbot, children’s book author Keith Brumpton and best-selling crime writer Clare Mackintosh.

Spend an evening with BBC Radio Scotland presenter and author Theresa Talbot. Joyful, hilarious tales from her first book where Theresa entertains us with her eventful life-story contrast with her recent gripping psychological drama ‘Penance’ based on the real life events which closed the Glasgow Magdalene Institution. For the first time, Bonnie Prince Charlie's arduous escape of 1746 has been recreated in a single journey. Gregor Ewing, along with his faithful border collie Meg, retraced Charlie's epic 530 mile walk through remote wilderness, hidden glens, modern day roads and uninhabited islands. Keith Brumpton is the writer of numerous fiction and non-fiction books, animations and scripts for children and young people. Writer and photographer Polly Pullar will be giving a colourful talk revolving around nature. Focusing on her passion for natural history, she will discuss how her passion has led to a way of life working with different animals whilst providing constant inspiration for her books and features. Those who just want to spend the week reading will also be well catered for, with thousands of copies of the specially commissioned free Book Week Scotland book being given away at Perth & Kinross libraries, bookshops and other venues throughout the week.
If you can't make it along to any of the events, remember that Book Week Scotland is the perfect chance to get signed up to your library or dig out your old membership card, to make sure there are books in your house and to take the time to enjoy them by yourself and together with your children.
