Perthshire's Barrie Douglas Foundation has teamed-up with Foundations established by Ryder Cup duo Paul Lawrie and Stephen Gallacher to promote a major junior golf initiative.
The three organisations have banded together to launch “The Race to the Machrie,” which will see promising young golfers enjoy a September weekend at the plush Islay hotel and historic links course, which re-opened last year after undergoing a major facelift.
The Barrie Douglas Foundation was established in memory of the well-known Perth businessman who died after taking ill in Spain while captaining the Scotland squad at the European Boys Team Championships.
Last year, the inaugural “Blackadders Scottish Junior Masters” enjoyed a successful debut at Blairgowrie Golf Club and plans are advanced to stage the 2019 event at The Strathmore Golf Centre this summer.
A total of 24 junior golfers will secure invitations to the September 21/22 culmination of the “Race to The Machrie"
The tie-up with high profile Foundations supported by Open champion Lawrie and recent European Tour winner Gallacher provides an added lure to youngsters signing-up for this year’s event which runs from May 31 to June 2.
A total of 24 junior golfers will secure invitations to the September 21/22 culmination of the “Race to The Machrie,” which will include golf, accommodation and a gala dinner.
“Stephen and I, along with Barrie Douglas Foundation trustees, are really happy with this new concept for an end-of-season event which the boys and girls can look forward to throughout the course of the season,” said Lawrie.
“The Machrie will, we’re sure, be a fantastic partner and host venue, with an excellent golf course and top class facilities all right there for the kids to enjoy and make the most of during the event, complemented by the beautiful on-site hotel.
“We want to wish everyone who takes part in our events the best of luck in their Race to The Machrie.”
The top two boys and the leading girl in the 2019 Barrie Douglas Foundation flagship event at Strathmore will qualify for the Islay trip.
