Workdays and Weekends: Ailish from The Wee Travel Company

By 1st May 2016

Whether you have a holiday booked, are just thinking about it, or have some well deserved time off planned, chances are you're at that time of the Scottish year when you've a niggle to get away.  Enter Ailish from The Wee Travel Company!

You just have to look at Ailish's Workdays and Weekends answers and you want a holiday. She epitomises the word globetrekker and it's no wonder she started her own travel company.

The Wee Travel Company is a web based travel site and Ailish will help you with advice, planning and booking your travels at a very competitive rate.  This is all the best bits of old fashioned travel agents service with all the great perks of onlin eprices! She'll even include VIP access to airport lounges, transfers and everything in between!

 1. What does a typical day at work look like for you?

Each day is very different which suits me really well! Generally (unless the rain is coming sideways) I go for a walk first thing, just 20-30 minutes but it really wakens me up and I find I can come up with creative ideas when I walk. Most of my enquiries come in on email so I am available online nearly the whole day.

As well as pricing up travel, I can research destinations for people and suggest new places for them to visit. I use a lot of trade only suppliers so phoning them is a great way to get specialist information on locations etc.

I also try to get to networking events, mainly in Perthshire but also across the country.

2. What signals the start of your weekend / days off?

If I'm not doing a wedding fair or fete then the wine is opened on a Friday night! Although I am usually still on the computer working out quotes or reading travel articles - it's quite addictive the travel business!

3. What makes for a perfect night in?

Meeting up at a friend's house - lots of wine, nibbles and laughs!

AILISH - On Holiday4. What makes for a memorable day or night out?

I obviously love to travel but am equally passionate about good food and drink. If I can find a food festival when visiting another town I'm in my element.

5. Tell us about the weekend you’d love to live again?

I'm always looking for something new to do or to go to but I guess if I had to say a particular weekend, it would be one of times I was at Wickerman Festival or Southern Fried.

6. And now your best ever day at work?

This is still quite a new business but so far I would say it was when I signed up my first Partner in Travel. This is a great scheme we run for companies whereby they can make money from travel bookings through their own personalised travel site. Charities can use it for fundraising or companies can use the commission to discount holidays to their staff!

7. Any workday or weekend rituals?

Tea, tea and more tea! If I'm in my office all day I'll have well over 10 cups of the stuff. Guess that'll be the Irish in me!

8. What’s is the perfect day off breakfast?

Pancakes, with maple syrup and crispy bacon. I also love fresh bread and pastries still warm from the bakers.

9. Any words of wisdom for us?

"We travel not to escape life but for life not to escape us."
