Abby is the owner of Abby's Beauty Secrets in Perth, the multi award winning beauty salon that scooped the award for the Best Beauty Salon in Scotland at the Scottish Business Awards this year! Whoop Whoop!
She is young, ambitious and loves dogs - sounds like a winning combination to us! We couldn't wait to catch up and find out how she fits everything into a week's work!
1. Tell us the weirdest / funniest thing that has ever happened to you at work?
A good therapist never tells! But there's never a dull day, I love my job and have a laugh every day.
2. What signals the start of your days off?
I would normally get a takeaway and a large bottle of wine. However, I don’t take much time off being self employed. I do keep telling myself to take holidays from work but when you work in a job you love so much, being away from it doesn’t feel like a holiday!

3. What might people be surprised to know about you?
I love dogs. I foster for a company called Staffy Smiles which rescue Staffy dogs from across the country and rehome them.
They are often dogs who are on 'death row' meaning there time in the pound is up and they will be put to sleep. A lot of these dogs have so much to give and you know nothing about there past.
It's our job to care for the dog get it settled into home life and train them, we are then able to give the charity a description about the dog so they can find the right forever home.
Sometimes we take old dogs at the end of their days and give them a last few months in a nice home. It's so hard giving the dogs up but so nice to see them in their forever home. Staffys are such misunderstood dogs and all they want is a cosy bed and a human to hug.
4. What is at the top of your bucket list?
I would love to do more traveling. I opened the salon very young and haven’t had much of a chance to travel.
5. What is the worst job you’ve ever had?
When I left school I got a job in an office. A day felt like a year, im not good at sitting in the same place all day.
6. Who or what inspires you?
There are a lot of people in the beauty industry that inspire me. The one who stands out the most is Karren Betts the owner of Noueau lashes, HD brows and Nouveau contour.
We use most her brands in the salon. She is such a down to earth person and has built her business up through hard work. She keeps most of the business in her local town in Yorkshire and is definitely someone I look up to and would love to achieve even a small slice of what she has!
7. Tell us about the day you’d love to live again?
We won Best Beauty Salon in Scotland at the Scottish Businesss Awards this year which was pretty great! Was such a proud moment.
8. What’s the best part about your job?
I love making people happy and making such a difference in peoples lives. It's great to think the work I do gives people a boost and makes them feel great about themselves. When I first started Abby's I wanted to create a salon where everyone felt welcome and could enjoy a very high standard of beauty treatments. It's achieving all of this that is the best part of my job.
9. Complete this sentence; the best thing in life is…. A staffy dog kiss!
