Chas Sievewright
If you've ever had any problems with your computer or laptop, chances are you'll have popped into see the friendly team at E-Computers. Perth's longest established independent computer sales and repair shop has been in the city since 2002, and they've come to my rescue during some stressful times during university!
Chas Sievewright is the man in charge, and helps to keep the people of Perth, other businesses and even Small City HQ online and issue free when it comes to all things technology.
Alongside E-Computers, Chas is also a keen photographer and has a fantastic portfolio of pictures, which you can view on his personal photography website.
We caught up with the man himself to find out a little more about him and what he likes to get up to in his spare time.
What does a typical day at work look like for you?
It always starts with coffee! Then it varies from servicing and booking in computers, to doing repairs. I also do a lot of sales support, either face to face or over the phone, so it’s always busy!
What signals the start of your weekend / days off?
Once Mondays are over, I start to wind down and by Thursday my weekend starts! When I’m heading out for some food or a bite to eat, I like to go to the Bothy just down from the shop. If I’m looking to go away for a weekend, I’m not picky as long as it’s in the countryside. I like Dunkeld but anywhere in the country is my idea of relaxing! If I ever need to do any shopping, then it'll be in one of the Perth independent businesses.
What might people be surprised to know about you?
I love fine art and photography – especially black and white photos – and I do some photography myself.

Top of your bucket list?
I’d love to do Route 66 on a motorbike for three weeks. That would be the perfect trip and there would be lots of things to see and photographs to get.
Worst job you’ve ever had?
I would say I’ve pretty much loved every job I’ve been in so I’m quite lucky! I did work in the prison service for a while which was good but it did have its “iffy” moments!
Who are what inspires you?
My parents! They always worked hard and enjoyed life. They were always keen to learn new things too!
(image) Tell us about the weekend you’d love to live again?
I’ve been to lots of great places that are amazing for photography – the likes of Venice and New York City to name a few. However, nothing quite beats pitching a tent beside a Loch in the middle of nowhere, sitting beside a fire with a coffee just listening to the wildlife. It’s a place to completely lose yourself.
What’s the best part about your job?
I love most aspects of my job! Getting to be face-to-face with my customers and offering them help and guidance on their computers is a nice thing. I also like meeting the people who come in whether they’re regulars or just in for a one-off, it’s nice to meet people and I’ve made some great friends through the shop too.
What’s in the perfect day off breakfast?
Muesli, banana and apple – all in a bowl of yoghurt!
Complete this sentence; the best things in life are…
Free? According to Luther Vandross and Janet Jackson anyway! For me, it’s time spent with family, relaxing and just enjoying life!
