The RSGS opened the doors of the Fair Maid’s House in Perth as a visitor centre in 2011. The centre is open to the public creating a new geographical heart of Scotland. Anyone is welcome to visit the Fair Maid’s House, which is open to the public over the summer months:
Saturday 6th April to Saturday 26th October 2019
April, May, June ● Thursday to Saturday ● 1:00pm to 4:30pm
July, August ● Monday to Friday ● 1:00pm to 4:30pm
September, October ● Thursday to Saturday ● 1:00pm to 4:30p
Groups can request a special visit at other times. Admission is by donation to RSGS. The centre is manned entirely by volunteers, so if you are planning a special journey you may wish to check in advance that it will be open.
The centre allows the RSGS to store and display items of our collection, to host touring exhibitions, and to welcome schools, other groups, and individuals. It provides a base for academic researchers and those planning trips, and for people just wanting to spend time in a beautiful place.
It offers a fantastic opportunity to explain geography and to explore geographical issues, through stories of inspiring people and interesting issues. It can even be a venue for a wedding or civil partnership ceremony.
The Fair Maid’s House is located in central Perth, just behind the Concert Hall. It is only a mile from Perth Railway Station, less than five minutes’ walk from Mill Street bus stops, and only two minutes’ walk from Kinnoull Street car park.
