The Great Perthshire Picnic

There is something wonderfully heartwarming about lots of people coming together to break bread and eat.  In our fast paced, hectic lives it can become all too easy to snack on the go, eat ready-meals from your knee and scoff down liquid calories in the form of an energy drink.

The Great Perthshire Picnic is a massive month long celebration of our local food and drink. With a whole host of amazing Perthshire and Kinross foodie businesses coming together so that we can all join in and celebrate the best food and drink the region has to offer.

The Great Perthshire Picnic is the brainchild of Perth’s leading social enterprise, Giraffe Trading, and the team there have been working tirelessly to ensure all of our local favourites are on board and have scheduled loads of amazing events throughout September championing the best local produce and home-grown talent.

From street food to gin tasting, bread-making to fish-trying, the variety is as diverse as our local larder and gives everyone a perfect opportunity to take a culinary tour of Perthshire and Kinross.

Gareth Ruddock, Giraffe Trading CEO, has been overwhelmed by the involvement of local businesses and chefs, here’s what he had to say when we caught up with him. “Perth and Kinross is rightly famed for its food and drink producers. We have award-winning restauranteurs, chocolatiers, distilleries, breweries and produce right on our doorstep, so an event to celebrate this has a huge amount of talent to draw on locally. We’ve had far more interest than I could ever have hoped for, and September’s looking like it’s going to be a really tasty month.”

Giraffe has been supported by the Community Food Fund to launch the first year of the event and in addition, some leading names from the local food and drink industry have helped.  To find out more about what’s on offer

All in all, it’s set to be a delicious month! Keep an eye on the Perthshire Picnic website which is packed full of all of the events details and fantastic foodie deals and offers.

PS We’ve been told events are booking up quickly, so register as soon as you can for your chosen date.
