Stay Awake, Stay Safe (With FREE Coffee!)

By 6th November 2015

You know we love it when people step up and do something amazing just becasue they can and this is one of the best feel good stories we've heard all week! Please read on and then share this brilliant Stay Awake, Stay Safe initiative from our pals at Nae Limits - its a proper #PerthshireLoveFest!

Those clocks going back may have given you an extra hour in bed but you drive to work in the dark, leave the office and its dark, hit the gym, put the bins out, dark, dark dark!

Which is why at this time of year everyone feels a little more tired, especially when driving.  The sad facts are that in 2013 there were 107 casualties and 29 deaths on the roads as a result of fatigue, however some say up to a quarter of collisions are a result of tiredness. In our part of the country statistics show that 6% of crashes on the A9 are a result of tiredness and one of the most common times is between 2pm and 4pm.

Rivers Meet Glen LyonMichael McDonnell, Director of Road Safety Scotland reiterates the advise “Drivers should plan their journeys well in advance, ensure they well rested before setting out and take breaks with a caffeinated drink every two hours. It’s simple yet powerful advice which can help save many lives on Scotland’s roads.”

The RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) suggests that drinking two cups of  coffee is one of the best ways to combat tiredness which is where Nae Limits comes in!

Famed the country over for their white knuckle outdoor adventures, what you might not know is that the team behind Nae Limits recently moved to bigger premises just up the road and now also run an amazing wee cafe called Rivers Meet. (Used to be th garden centre at Ballinluig... you know it right?).

Its here that John, Nicki and the gang will welcome you in from the A9 and give you one cup of FREE coffee! No catch, no need to hand over your first born or buy ten days on the river. They're simply being decent folk and offering A9 commuters a FREE coffee to help them “Stay Awake, Stay Safe.” Bloody brilliant!

Here's what John said: “Having operated our business on the A9 for over 16 years, we have unfortunately witnessed some tragic accidents; if we can do one little thing to help reduce these accidents then we’re willing to give it a try.”

Rivers Meet is easily accessed from the A9, at the Ballinluig exit, with plenty of parking, allowing you to stop off for that essential 15 minute coffee break.  They proudly serve freshly ground artisan coffee from local roasters Glen Lyon (free and local... hello!), who carefully source their beans from all over the world and roast them in their micro roastery in Aberfeldy.

Rivers Meet Homebaking#RhonaRecommends and I stopped off to try Rivers Meet recently and I am delighted to tell you that as well as being really nice people, they also serve great coffee and do delicious home-baking , fresh scones, cakes and biscuits.  We had sarnies for our lunch and they are proper, hearty, thick-cut bloomers filled with local produce. (I had the Dunkeld smoked salmon. Amazeballs as Rhona would say!).  With log burning stove and free wi-fi you can relax by the fire, enjoy your free coffee and get back on the road refreshed and rested.

Drop in, let the team know you read about their "Stay Awake, Stay Safe" campaign on Small City and your coffee will be on the house! Find them on our directory here >>>
